Dining Table With Pierced Top
Hard and soft maple, oak
A subtly detailed dining table for eight featuring a shaped hard maple top and legs that peek up.
The brief for this dining table was to seat eight comfortably for family style dinners and get togethers. This table is emblematic of our "quietly detailed" design ethos. It doesn't shout, but there's plenty to discover.
The eight and a half foot long table top looks like it's floating in mid-air thanks to a series of ribs and piercings that let the legs peek up over the top. The piercings show patterned end grain at the tops of the legs framed by the shop sawn hard maple veneer. That veneer is laid up in such a way as to create continuous grain patterns that circle each leg.
Once you're looking at the legs, you might then notice the top floats freely from the undercarriage supported by ribs that, themselves, appear out of space.
We might not have anti-gravity yet, but we've got this.
